2006: A Banner Year for the FPWR

What a tremendous year 2006 was for the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research! The past year has been an exciting one, full of progress and hope. The numerous accomplishments in 2006 included:
  • 180 member-families as of the end of 2006, representing nearly a five-fold increase in membership over the prior 18 months;

  • Co-sponsorship by the FPWR of the X Prize, a project aimed at rapidly sequencing entire human genomes;

  • Completion of our first FPWR Fundraising Month, with 10 events in September raising over $300,000 for PWS research;

  • Establishing a new brand for FPWR that included new printed materials and a new website;

  • The awarding of our third round of research grants, bringing the total number of grants funded by the FPWR to 14, and the number of FPWR-supported publications to six;

  • Receipt of 27 new grant applications for 2007, further indicating the overwhelming interest in Prader-Willi syndrome by the medical research community;

  • Increased awareness internationally, resulting in a surge of new members from around the globe.
The successes of the past year are a direct reflection of your dedication and support. The members of the FPWR are determined to change the face of Prader-Willi syndrome and are motivated by our love for our families and our strong desire to create the best future possible for our loved ones. With your help, we will reach our goals!

2007 is set to be a year of further growth and success

With your continued support, we fully expect to fund even more projects in 2007; in addition, we plan to expand our membership both domestically and abroad. Please continue to support us as we look to fulfill our mission and provide a new future for our children with Prader-Willi syndrome.
