About the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR)
The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR) is composed of parents, families, researchers, and others interested in addressing the issues that come with Prader-Willi syndrome and childhood obesity.
FPWR was founded in 2003 by parents of children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). FPWR's mission is to eliminate the challenges of Prader-Willi syndrome through the advancement of research. All proceeds go toward the support of Prader-Willi research. Members of FPWR believe that, through research, treatments can be found that will lessen the restrictions placed on individuals with PWS and their families. These advancements will provide those with the syndrome an opportunity to lead more independent lives.
To date, the FPWR has committed more than $750,000 to support PWS-related research.
- genetics and pathophysiology of PWS
- mouse models of PWS
- hunger and obesity
- development of new therapeutic approaches
- sleep disturbances in PWS
- improving academic and learning skills for children with PWS
Research funded by FPWR has been published in top medical journals, including Nature, Neuroscience, Endocrinology, and International Journal of Molecular Medicine.
