Friends,

As you know, we have begun our Annual Campaign of 2007 and I know that many of you have sent out letters to support PWS research through FPWR. If you have not yet done this, please consider using one of the attached letters and contacting as many of your family members, friends, co-workers, medical professionals, sport teammates, church families, club pals, and anybody else you can think of. Not all of us can hold events, but ALL of us can send out letters.

Let's do a little math here…..

FPWR has over 360 families within our fold. If each family sent out only 20 letters (and most of us can send out many times that number), that would be roughly 7200 letters going out. If, out of those 7200 letters, we received $25 donations from just half of them, we would have $90,000–almost enough to fund TWO new projects. Knowing that many of our contacts will donate much more than $25, you can see that this method of fundraising can be very effective and can support the research that we want to do without creating a great deal of work for any one person.

FPWR was started with one purpose in mind—-to raise funds to support and accelerate PWS research. We have a message board with very interesting conversations about PWS issues, but we are more than email. Theresa interprets complex studies so we can understand what the current trends in research mean to our children's futures, but we are more than discussion. Those of us in FPWR joined together because we want to do more than talk and read. We want ACTION!!! We want RESULTS!!! We want this NOW!!! What we can never forget is that in order to get what we want, we have to raise the money to make it happen.

In order to accomplish what we set out to do, it will take EACH and EVERY one of us, working together, to reach our goals. We learned long ago that no one is going to do this for us. As unfair as it is that we as parents have to deal with the issues that PWS brings AND help identify and fund research to change those very issues, that is the reality we face. Our other choice is to sit and wait, hoping that someone, somewhere will do something. Many of us spent years doing that and it got us nowhere. Our children's lives can't be put on pause until something happens. WE have to be someones. HERE has to be the somewhere. NOW has to be the time. It's as simple as that.

FPWR does not require that anyone do fundraising in order to belong to our organization. We do, however, encourage everyone to participate in fundraising because only then will we move reserach along at a rate that will help ALL of our children in their lifetimes. While it is true that we are all busy, that we all have stressful lives, it is also true that we cannot allow ourselves to be short-sighted. We have to think of what will benefit our children most in the long run. As FPWR's mission states, we are working toward an independent future. This is what we believe is our highest priority for our children and research is the vehicle that will get us there.

Friends, Don't wait! Resolve today to set aside a little time each day to send out a few more letters in support of FPWR's Annual Campaign 2007. Many of us have found that we get a better response if we include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with our requests, but this is not mandatory. Also, if you use the unsigned letter, you can personalize it with a picture of your child or other special touches. You can also write your own personal letter, and then include a copy of the letter that comes from me. Finally, you are free to write an original letter that is completely your own. Any of these options are great. Just choose one and get started!

I don't have to tell you that we take donations all year round. The Annual Campaign 2007, though, is through the end of FPWR Month (September 30, 2007), so try to focus on this time period and give it your best shot! By raising all of the money we can before our next round of project proposals come in, we have an idea of how many we can fund since we know how much money we have to work with.

Thanks so much for all you are doing to make this year the best round of fundraising we have ever seen. It's your work and effort that has gotten us this far and that will take us on into the kind of future we so want for our beloved children!

Rachel
