As you all know, FPWR’s Annual Meeting is October 5-7 at Snow Mountain Ranch outside of Denver, Colorado. This will be a wonderful weekend of for all of us and I can’t wait to see you all there!

I’m going to write a bit about our weekend schedule and then lay out registration information. Our goal is to have a combination of relevant workshops and seminars related to PWS, research, and fundraising, as well as an opportunity to renew old friendship and build new ones. If you have ever been to one of our meetings, you know what a great time you will have! If you haven’t, you have so much to look forward to!!!

Brief Schedule Outline

The weekend goes from Friday afternoon through Sunday noon. I will send out a detailed schedule soon, but in brief, we will register on Friday afternoon, and depending on what time you arrive, you will have time to enjoy the many recreational activities available at Snow Mountain Ranch. We will have dinner at 6 p.m. and then have time for an orientation and group meeting until 9:30 p.m.

Saturday morning, after breakfast, we will have two workshops for the adults and fun activities for the children. Saturday afternoon will be time for group and family recreation. After dinner, we will have our annual business meeting, our keynote speaker and special activities for the children.

Sunday morning, the children will be enjoying more of Snow Mountain Ranch’s recreational opportunities and the adults will have two more workshops. After lunch, everyone is free to enjoy the retreat center until it is time to head toward Denver to leave for home.

As I said, I’ll have a detailed schedule very soon (waiting for confirmation of times and specifics from the YMCA) but that is our basic outline. Among our speakers will be Dr. Lucy Jane Miller from the Kid Foundation ( speaking to us about Sensory Processing Dysfunction and the project they are currently doing for FPWR, Dr. Theresa Strong discussing PWS research and FPWR’s part in that, Dr. Lauren Schwartz Roth facilitating our Parent Round Table, and much more. What I’ve asked for in activities for the children include hiking, swimming, a hayride, crafts, campfire, team-building activities, and the more. We will have child care workers involved in the children’s activities along with the YMCA staff. In addition to our group activities, there will be time on Saturday for some family choice sports. To get a preview of some of our choices for recreation, here is a link to their indoor and outdoor activities: snow-mountain-ranch/smrrecreation

Travel Tips

1. Plan to arrive in Denver no later than 1-2:00 p.m. You will need to allow about 1 ½ hours to drive to Snow Mountain Ranch. The good news is that this is an absolutely beautiful drive and you want to have plenty of sunshine to catch all the incredible views. You will be traveling west out of Denver on I-70, then taking State Road 40 North toward Winter Park. On the way, you will be crossing the Continental Divide and then driving down the mountain, through Winter Park and Frasier, going on to the YMCA. Here are the driving directions from Denver International Airport.

Driving Directions to Snow Mountain Ranch from Denver International Airport:Take 1-70 West to Exit #232 (US 40 to Granby) Travel over Berthoud Pass and through the town of Winter Park. Snow Mountain Ranch's entrance is 12 miles past Winter Park on the left (west) side of the US 40. Follow the road approximately 1 mile and check in at the Administration Building on your left. http://www.ymcarock .pdf

2. Most families will want to rent a car/van to travel to and from Denver, but there are other options. If you would like to take a shuttle, that option is through a company called “Home James.” This is the only shuttle company going to the YMCA from the Denver airport. It costs roughly $50 per person and has limited departure and arrival times. Their phone number is 970-726-5060. One other option is Amtrak, but it does not go all the way to the YMCA. It’s nearest stop is in Frasier, CO. From there you would have to take a taxi to the YMCA. If this idea interests you, the phone number for Amtrak is 1-800-872-7245.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. Thanks!
